Can I Study AI or Data Science in the USA With a 3.12 CGPA?

Hi everyone, I am from Pakistan. I have done my Bachelor’s in Computer Science with a 3.12 CGPA and I am thinking about doing a Master’s in AI or Data Science in the USA. I belong to a middle-class family and US education is quite expensive for us. My father can support me and show his bank statement, but I may also need a student loan. I am single, so I only need to manage my own expenses. Is my CGPA enough for a decent and affordable university? Are scholarships or assistantships possible with this profile? Also, how do Pakistani students usually arrange student loans for the USA? Can I use a student loan along with my father’s bank statement for the visa process? If another close family member helps us financially, will that create any issue if everything is genuine? My main goal is to study, find a good job after graduation and eventually get PR in the USA. I don’t really know how the PR process works there, so I would appreciate guidance on that as well. Do you think going to the USA with this profile and financial situation is a good idea?

I think you’ve made a really good decision for your future. With a CS background, moving into AI or Data Science can open up much better career opportunities. Even if you need a loan, don’t be too discouraged by it. If you choose a good university, control your costs and land a decent job after graduation, paying it back can be manageable. My cousin followed a similar path and is now happily working in the US on an H-1B visa. Your first step should be getting into an affordable university, then focus on internships and getting a good job after your Master’s. From there, you can explore work visa options and eventually the route toward PR. Just plan everything carefully and keep improving your skills. I think you have a decent chance with a 3.12 CGPA. Just apply to universities that match your profile and try to get some scholarship or assistantship to keep the cost down. AI/Data Science is a good direction, and if you manage to get a job after graduation, there are options to stay and work in the US and later look into PR. Just be careful with how much loan you take.

I’d first work backwards from the loan amount rather than choosing a university only by ranking. AI/Data Science can be a good choice, but if most of the degree has to be financed through debt, make sure the repayment still looks manageable even if you don’t get a US job right away. Scholarships and assistantships could make a big difference here. Also look into the PR process separately, because it’s not something that comes automatically after graduation.

A 3.12 CGPA should still give you some decent options if you target affordable universities. Try to look for programs with scholarships or assistantships because taking a big loan can be risky. You can usually show an approved student loan along with your father’s bank statement if everything is genuine and documented. Also, keep in mind that studying in the US doesn’t automatically mean you’ll get PR, so you should understand that part before making a final decision.
