DS-160 Help: My Wife Has No First Name on Her Passport or CNIC. What Should I Enter?

I'm currently filling out a DS-160 for my wife and I've run into a confusing situation. Her Pakistani passport and CNIC only have one name. She doesn't have a separate first/given name or surname. it's just a single name on all of her official documents. On her passport, the Surname is listed as "XXXX". The DS-160, however, requires both a Surname and a Given Name. Has anyone here been in the same situation? What did you enter, and did you face any issues later during the visa process?

The State Department actually addresses this. One name only = Surname: your name, Given Name: FNU.

Put the single name exactly as shown in the passport under Surname, and enter FNU under Given Names. That is the DS-160 instruction for a passport with only one name.
