I’ve had two F-1 visa interviews within a short period, and both ended in refusal. Most of the interview went normally-questions about the university, my study plans, and finances, with my father as the sponsor. In both interviews, the turning point seemed to be the question about relatives in the U.S. My sibling originally went to the U.S. for a PhD, later moved to H-1B status, and eventually obtained a green card. I answered this honestly when asked, and shortly afterward the visa was refused. For context, I completed around 60 college credits at a satellite campus in my home country and was planning to transfer to a well-ranked U.S. research university. Has anyone had a similar situation where a sibling’s permanent residency appeared to affect an F-1 decision? Is another application realistically worth attempting, or would a third interview without a significant change in circumstances likely lead to the same result?
