Introduction of the Chancenkarte

Germany has introduced the Chancenkarte, or “Opportunity Card,” a new work visa aimed at non-EU nationals. Effective from June 1, this visa utilizes a points-based system evaluating applicants on academic qualifications, language skills, and professional experience. It allows recipients to live in Germany for up to one year while seeking employment, with the ability to work part-time during their job search.

Simplified Process for Skilled Workers

Federal Minister Nancy Faeser highlighted that the Opportunity Card is designed to expedite and simplify the process for skilled individuals to find suitable employment in Germany. This initiative addresses Germany’s labor shortages in fields such as medicine, education, manufacturing, and engineering.

Eligibility and Criteria

Applicants must meet specific criteria, including having a recognized professional qualification or academic degree, and accumulate at least six points from various categories. Proof of sufficient funds to cover living expenses, at least €1,027 per month, is also required.

Focus on Non-EU Nationals

The Chancenkarte is tailored for non-EU citizens, offering additional points for German language skills or education in Germany. The new visa represents a strategic move to bolster the German workforce and support the economy.
