Job Overview

The Public Defence Service (PDS) in Wellington is looking for an enthusiastic Legal Support Assistant to join their support team. This is a full-time, fixed-term role (6 months) offering an opportunity to gain valuable experience in the justice sector while providing critical support to lawyers and clients.

Job Responsibilities

  • Set up and maintain client files and collate legal documents
  • Process client disclosures and case-related paperwork
  • Assist regional offices with administrative and legal support
  • Perform general office administration tasks including data entry, correspondence, and filing
  • Support legal secretaries and lawyers in day-to-day case management

Requirements

  • Prior office administration or customer service experience (1–2 years preferred)
  • Strong computer literacy and fast, accurate typing skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a busy, team-based environment
  • Interest in legal and justice sector work
