Job Overview

Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC) seeks a full-time, on-site Specialist Physician for the ICU in Abu Dhabi. Working alongside Consultant Physicians, you will deliver high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centred critical care while supervising junior staff. The role spans direct clinical duties, multidisciplinary collaboration, teaching, audit/quality initiatives, and participation in research within one of the UAE’s largest tertiary centres.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide ICU patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management under established best practices.
  • Lead ward rounds; review investigations; adjust treatment plans and document care accurately.
  • Collaborate with other specialties and support services; participate in MDT meetings.
  • Supervise and train junior medical staff; ensure safe, holistic patient care.
  • Support divisional policies, performance management, incident reporting, and resource utilization.
  • Participate in on-call rota (evenings, nights, weekends, public holidays) as required.
  • Ensure informed consent, admissions/discharges, and follow-up processes align with hospital protocols.

Requirements

  • Board certification/eligible with current national license (or equivalent).
  • Experience tiers per SSMC: Tier 1 (no post-board exp. required) / Tier 2 (≥2 years) / Tier 3 (≥3 years) in accredited institutes; UAE nationals as specified.
  • Commitment to clinical excellence, audit, quality improvement, and patient safety.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and documentation skills; adherence to policies and infection control.
