What does the University of Dhaka cost for an international student?
The university’s overseas-student fee structure published in 2025 lists undergraduate tuition at US$50 per credit for approximately 140-165 credits, equivalent to US$7,000-US$8,250 in tuition.
After specified application, admission, registration and other charges, the university gives an estimated four-year total of US$10,200-US$11,450 before scholarships or waivers. Laboratory-based subjects can carry additional laboratory fees.

International admission is a separate process
Dhaka’s international admissions procedure requires applications and academic documentation to pass through an official verification process. The university states that the relevant Faculty Equivalence Committee assesses eligibility before the department and university approve admission.

BUET vs University of Dhaka
Dhaka ranks higher overall in QS 2027, but subject evidence reverses the picture for several engineering disciplines.
In Electrical & Electronic Engineering, BUET ranks 301-350, compared with Dhaka at 501-550. In Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering, BUET is 351-400, while Dhaka is 501-575.
An engineering student should therefore give more weight to subject fit than to Dhaka’s stronger overall ranking.

BUET is a specialist institution. That specialization is valuable for engineering students but means it should not be compared with Dhaka as though both universities serve exactly the same academic needs.

One particularly useful comparison is economics. NSU and the University of Dhaka are both in the 301-350 band for Economics & Econometrics in QS 2026. That means a student choosing between them should consider cost, admission structure and the public-versus-private experience rather than assuming Dhaka automatically wins because of its higher overall rank.
NSU tuition
NSU’s published undergraduate fee structure effective from Spring 2026 lists tuition of BDT 8,000 per credit for its listed undergraduate programs, together with separate admission, refundable caution and semester-based charges.

Students should check the exact program’s credit requirement rather than multiplying the per-credit fee by an assumed number of credits.
Financial aid
NSU reports that 6,555 students received full or partial financial aid in 2025. Of these, 1,201 received a 100% waiver. The university also publishes other partial-waiver categories.

NSU states that international undergraduate applicants generally need 12 years of schooling with a minimum average of 60%. For applicants from non-English-speaking educational backgrounds, published English-language options include IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 72, among other routes. That overall position could easily cause a student to overlook it.
In the QS Subject Rankings 2026, however, BAU ranks 251-300 globally in Agriculture & Forestry, the highest position achieved by a Bangladesh university in that subject.

Agriculture has its own admission structure

Its strongest recommendation case is therefore not that it outranks Dhaka, BUET or NSU. The more useful differentiators are its transparent private-university fee structure, international admissions and potentially substantial financial aid.

For new undergraduate students enrolled from Spring 2025, BRAC lists:
- BDT 8,250 per credit for most undergraduate programs
- BDT 8,800 per credit for Law
- BDT 8,800 per Architecture studio credit
- BDT 33,900 admission fee
- Separate semester fees depending on the program

These should be treated as fee components rather than a universal annual cost.
International scholarship
BRAC’s needs-based BRAC Scholarship for international students can provide a 100% waiver of tuition and other fees together with food and accommodation for eligible economically disadvantaged but meritorious students.
The university’s published criteria include continuing academic-performance requirements.

Important warning for Law and Pharmacy
International students should not assume that admission to a professional program guarantees local professional registration.
BRAC states that foreign Law students are not eligible for Bangladesh Bar Council registration. It also states that foreign citizens studying Pharmacy are not eligible for Pharmacy Council of Bangladesh registration.

Bangladesh Accreditation Council also illustrates why program-level verification matters. Its register updated on 15 March 2026 lists Daffodil’s BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with accreditation valid to 11 March 2031, while its BBA and Software Engineering programs hold Certificates of Confidence to March 2027.

CUET: Engineering Alternative Outside Dhaka

The University Grants Commission of Bangladesh is the apex body overseeing the country’s university sector and has responsibilities involving higher-education policy, development and quality assurance.

For students, public versus private affects much more than ownership.
Private institutions such as NSU and BRAC publish detailed credit-based fee structures and institution-specific admission requirements. Public universities may operate their own admission systems or participate in discipline-specific cluster arrangements.
The right question is therefore not simply, “Is a public university better than a private university?”
Instead compare:
- strength in your intended subject;
- actual tuition and mandatory fees;
- scholarship eligibility;
- admission route;
- program accreditation;
- professional-registration implications.
Admission in Bangladesh Is Not One National Process
Students should be cautious with guides that present Bangladesh university admission as a single sequence.

Can International Students Work While Studying in Bangladesh?
This is a significant practical consideration.
Official Bangladesh government guidance updated in January 2026 states that an individual studying or seeking admission at a government-approved institution can apply for an S Student Visa.
The same guidance explicitly states that paid or unpaid employment in Bangladesh is prohibited for S and FS visa holders.

The guidance also states that an S visa may be issued for up to one year with multiple entries, with extensions possible through the relevant authorities subject to applicable requirements.
The financial implication is important: international students should not build their Bangladesh study budget around earnings from a normal part-time student job.
