Laos, officially the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) (Lao: ສາທາລະນະລັດປະຊາທິປະໄຕປະຊາຊົນລາວ), is a landlocked country in Southeast Asia. It shares borders with China and Vietnam to the north and east, Cambodia to the south, Thailand to the west, and Myanmar to the northwest. The capital and largest city is Vientiane.

Laos is known for its mountainous terrain, Buddhist temples, and the scenic Mekong River, which flows through much of the country. Famous attractions include the UNESCO-listed town of Luang Prabang, Kuang Si Falls, and the Plain of Jars. The country has maintained a peaceful and slow-paced way of life deeply rooted in Buddhist traditions.

The economy of Laos relies on hydropower, mining, agriculture, and tourism. The official language is Lao, and the national currency is the Lao Kip (LAK). Laos is a member of ASEAN and is one of the fastest-growing economies in the region, with ongoing infrastructure development and cross-border trade initiatives with its neighbors.
