General Manager - HV Substation Design Consultancy

Flow & Systems Partners is seeking a General Manager for a well-established high-voltage engineering consultancy in Dubai. This is a confidential search for a successor to the founder, with a planned strategic investment to accelerate growth.

The role involves a transition year working alongside the founder, followed by full leadership responsibility for the ~50-person technical organization. The location is based in Dubai, with regular travel to Abu Dhabi.

We are looking for a proven leader with a strong background in HV/EHV transmission and distribution, and established relationships with UAE utilities. Join us for a real succession opportunity with potential for equity participation.

The company has long-standing approvals with main UAE utilities and a team of approximately 50 engineers across Dubai and Abu Dhabi. They are preparing for a strategic investment to drive growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Transition year: Build client and authority relationships, learn project delivery, and take on commercial/financial responsibilities.
• From year two: Full P&L and operational responsibility for the technical organization.
• Drive growth: Strengthen core business, expand in Abu Dhabi, and explore adjacent segments like data centers.
• Manage engineering delivery, commercial performance, client relationships, and team development.
• Oversee tendering, pricing, margin management, and working capital.

Requirements

• Proven P&L leadership in a professional-services or engineering-consulting business with teams of 30+ people.
• Commercial skills in a services firm (tendering, pricing, margin management, client development).
• Ability to retain and develop senior engineers.
• Genuine interest in a succession path and working closely with a founder.
• 15+ years in HV/EHV transmission and distribution, ideally in consulting or engineering design.
• Solid understanding of substation design and approval processes.
• Established relationships with UAE utilities and authorities (DEWA, TRANSCO/TAQA, ADDC/EAD, SEWA, FEWA).
• Fluent English required; Arabic is a plus.
