Job Overview
Valiant Integrated Services is seeking a highly skilled Somali/Afar/French CAT III Linguist to support missions in Djibouti. The linguist will provide translation, interpretation, and cultural advisory services in multiple languages to assist U.S. government operations in the Horn of Africa. This full-time, on-site role requires fluency in Somali, Afar, French, and English at ILR Level 3/3, along with native-level cultural familiarity and an active TS/SCI security clearance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide accurate interpretation and translation of Somali, Afar, and French into English and vice versa.
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of regional dialects, cultural nuances, and local customs.
- Assist U.S. military and government personnel by facilitating communication with local populations and stakeholders.
- Operate within culturally sensitive environments while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Support intelligence and mission operations requiring linguistic expertise and cultural context.
- Adhere to operational security protocols and clearance guidelines at all times.
Requirements
- Proficiency in Somali, Afar, French, and English at ILR Level 3/3 (native ability preferred).
- U.S. citizenship with active TS/SCI clearance.
- Extensive regional experience and familiarity with East African cultures.
- Ability to interpret standard dialects and manage translations requiring minimal paraphrasing.
- Physically fit and able to perform duties in extreme temperatures, dust, and challenging field conditions.
- Medically and dentally fit for deployment; must meet CENTCOM MOD 17 standards.
- Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as operationally required.
