Ecuador, officially the Republic of Ecuador (Spanish: República del Ecuador), is a country located in the northwestern region of South America. It is bordered by Colombia to the north, Peru to the east and south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. The country also includes the world-famous Galápagos Islands, located about 1,000 km off the mainland. The capital city is Quito, and the largest city is Guayaquil.

Ecuador is known for its biodiversity, Andean mountains, Amazon rainforest, and colonial cities. It is one of the world’s most ecologically diverse countries, straddling the Equator and featuring coastal beaches, highlands, and jungle regions. The economy relies on oil, agriculture (bananas, flowers, cocoa), and tourism.

Spanish is the official language, while Quechua and other indigenous languages are also spoken. The national currency is the United States Dollar (USD), adopted in 2000. Ecuador offers travelers a unique mix of nature, adventure, and cultural heritage.
