Paraguay Overview
Paraguay, officially the Republic of Paraguay, is a landlocked country located in the heart of South America. It is bordered by Argentina to the south and southwest, Brazil to the east and northeast, and Bolivia to the northwest. The capital and largest city is Asunción.
Known as the “Heart of South America,” Paraguay is a bilingual nation where both Spanish and Guaraní are official languages. The country is characterized by its vast plains, rivers, and subtropical forests. The Paraguay River divides the nation into the eastern region — lush and fertile — and the western Gran Chaco region, which is sparsely populated and semi-arid.
Paraguay’s economy relies on agriculture, livestock, hydroelectric power, and manufacturing. The country shares the massive Itaipú Dam with Brazil — one of the largest hydroelectric plants in the world — making it a major exporter of clean energy.
Despite being one of the smaller economies in South America, Paraguay is known for its low cost of living, friendly people, and growing investment potential in agriculture and renewable energy.
