Montenegro is a small, mountainous country in Southeast Europe on the Adriatic Sea, bordered by Croatia to the west, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the northwest, Serbia to the northeast, Kosovo to the east, and Albania to the southeast. The capital and largest city is Podgorica, while the historic royal capital is Cetinje.

Montenegro blends dramatic alpine and coastal scenery: the UNESCO-listed Durmitor National Park and Tara River Canyon, the fjord-like Bay of Kotor with medieval towns (Kotor, Perast), Lake Skadar (one of the Balkans’ largest lakes), and iconic islets like Sveti Stefan. Outdoor adventures include rafting, hiking, canyoning, and sailing.

The economy spans tourism, energy and metals, transport, agriculture (olives, wine), and services. Montenegrin (a South Slavic language) is official; Serbian, Bosnian, Albanian, and Croatian are widely understood. The currency is the Euro (EUR).
