Bulgaria, officially the Republic of Bulgaria, is an EU member state in Southeastern Europe on the Balkan Peninsula. It borders Romania (across the Danube) to the north, Serbia and North Macedonia to the west, Greece and Türkiye to the south, and the Black Sea to the east. The capital and largest city is Sofia.

Bulgaria features diverse landscapes—Danubian plains, the Balkan Mountains, Rhodope Mountains, and sandy Black Sea resorts. Its economy spans manufacturing & machinery, IT & BPO services, agri-food (wheat, sunflower oil, wines, rose oil), and growing tourism. Cultural highlights include Rila Monastery, Plovdiv Old Town, and the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.

Bulgarian is the official language; English is commonly used in business and tourism. The Bulgarian Lev (BGN) is the currency (pegged to the euro). As an EU state, Bulgaria aligns many policies with the Union while maintaining rich traditions in music, crafts, and cuisine.
