Singapore Overview
Singapore is a sovereign city-state and island nation in Southeast Asia, located at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. It has no land borders but is connected to Malaysia via the Johor–Singapore Causeway and the Tuas Second Link, with maritime boundaries adjacent to Indonesia. The capital city is Singapore (entire country).
Founded as a British trading post in 1819, Singapore became a self-governing state in 1959, briefly joined Malaysia in 1963, and gained full independence on 9 August 1965. Today it is known for world-class infrastructure, a highly open economy, a strong rule of law, and status as a global hub for finance, trade, logistics, and technology.
Despite its compact size, Singapore features modern skylines, historic districts, and significant green spaces. Highlights include the Marina Bay waterfront, Gardens by the Bay, the Singapore Botanic Gardens (UNESCO), and diverse neighborhoods such as Chinatown, Little India, and Kampong Gelam.
Singapore is also famous for its multicultural society, vibrant food scene, efficient public transport, and iconic attractions like Sentosa Island, the Merlion, and the Jewel Changi Airport Rain Vortex.
