Singapore Overview
Singapore is a sovereign city-state and island nation in Southeast Asia, located at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. It has no land borders but is connected to Malaysia via the Johor–Singapore Causeway and the Tuas Second Link, with maritime boundaries adjacent to Indonesia. The capital city is Singapore (entire country).
Founded as a British trading post in 1819, Singapore became a self-governing state in 1959, briefly joined Malaysia in 1963, and gained full independence on 9 August 1965.
