Morocco is a North African country at the western edge of the Maghreb, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea. It borders Algeria to the east and southeast and the territory of Western Sahara to the south; it also faces Spain across the Strait of Gibraltar (with Spanish enclaves Ceuta and Melilla). The capital is Rabat and the largest city is Casablanca.

Morocco’s landscapes span the Atlas and Rif Mountains, cedar forests and fertile plains, and the Sahara Desert (dunes of Merzouga). Cultural highlights include imperial cities—Marrakech, Fes, Meknes, and Rabat—the blue town of Chefchaouen, coastal Essaouira, Roman Volubilis, and the ksar of Aït Benhaddou (UNESCO).

The economy is diversified across phosphates & fertilizers, automotive and aerospace components, agriculture (citrus, olives, vegetables), textiles, tourism, and renewable energy (wind/solar). Arabic and Amazigh (Berber) are official languages; French is widely used in business. The currency is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD).
