State of Palestine Overview
State of Palestine (Arabic: دولة فلسطين) is a de jure sovereign state located in the Middle East, comprising the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) and the Gaza Strip. It is bordered by Israel to the north, west, and south, Jordan to the east across the Jordan River, and Egypt to the southwest. The declared capital is Jerusalem (Al-Quds), while the administrative center currently functions in Ramallah.
The State of Palestine declared independence on 15 November 1988 in Algiers and has since gained recognition from over 130 UN member states. It has non-member observer state status in the United Nations. The country has a deep historical, cultural, and religious significance, particularly for the Abrahamic faiths. Key cultural and economic centers include Ramallah, Gaza City, Hebron, Nablus, and Bethlehem.
Despite ongoing political challenges and partial occupation, the Palestinian people maintain a strong national identity and a growing emphasis on education, entrepreneurship, and international partnerships. Agriculture, crafts, and trade remain integral to the local economy.
Major attractions include Al-Aqsa Mosque, Church of the Nativity, Old City of Jerusalem, and the Dead Sea. The land’s historical and spiritual richness continues to attract global attention and cultural interest.
