Djibouti, officially the Republic of Djibouti (French: République de Djibouti; Arabic: جمهورية جيبوتي), is a small but strategically located country in the Horn of Africa. It borders Eritrea to the north, Ethiopia to the west and south, and Somalia (Somaliland) to the southeast, with coastlines along the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea. The capital and largest city is Djibouti City.

Djibouti serves as a major maritime and logistics hub for East Africa and beyond, anchored by the Port of Djibouti and regional rail links. Its landscape features volcanic plateaus, salt lakes like Lake Assal (Africa’s lowest point), and coastal coral reefs. The economy is driven by services, shipping, re-exports, and logistics, with growing activity in free trade zones, renewable energy, and tourism.

Official languages are French and Arabic; widely spoken national languages include Somali and Afar. The currency is the Djiboutian franc (DJF), and the climate is predominantly hot and arid year-round.
