Niger is a landlocked country in West Africa, bordered by Algeria and Libya to the north, Chad to the east, Nigeria and Benin to the south, and Burkina Faso and Mali to the west. Its capital and largest city is Niamey.

Niger occupies a large portion of the Sahara Desert and Sahel region. Despite its arid environment, the country is rich in uranium and has an economy based on agriculture, livestock, and mining. The Niger River, which flows through the southwest, is a crucial source of water and livelihood for many communities.

The population is ethnically diverse, including Hausa, Zarma-Songhai, Tuareg, Fulani, and Kanuri groups. French is the official language, while Islam is practiced by the majority of the population. Niger’s culture reflects a blend of traditional African and Islamic influences.

Niger faces challenges related to desertification, limited arable land, and climate change but continues to strengthen regional trade and infrastructure through its membership in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union.
